I had the pleasure of interviewing senior Kayla Padilla, who is a co-captain (along with junior Cyan) of Bishop’s girls’ basketball team. I asked her about her last season at Bishop, before she begins her new basketball career and education at the University of Pennsylvania.
How long did your season last?
“We started league play in December and [ended] in February”
What did the team win?
“We won league [so we were] Del Rey League champs, and we went to the 1st Rounds of open Division State, and Semifinals for open Division CIF”
How many people are on the team and how many of them are seniors?
“We have 14 girls and four of them are seniors”
How was this year different from other years?
“This past year was the most competitive year, and we had the best record in terms of [how] we beat a lot of top tier schools”
What team was the most satisfying to beat?
“We beat Winward, Etiwanda, and Serra”
Were there any specific team bonding exercises or rituals you did before games?
“Our team song is ‘Houseparty’ by Sam Hunt, and before every game, we have a team meal and each senior gives a little motivational speech. [As a personal ritual] I also write Philippians 4:13 in pen on my finger before every game.”
